Dreadlock Types & Styles

When ordering a set of custom dreadlocks, whether you're a dreadlock pro or if it's your first set, the choices can be a bit overwhelming.

Here you will find information you'll need to know before placing an order.

Firstly:: Style - Do you want them to be curly or straight?

All dreadlock sets come straight as standard but can easily be made into a lush curled set.

Secondly:: Types - Do you want them Solid, Transitional or Blended?

There are tons of colour combination possibilities but you need to decide how you want your dreads to look.

Here's a brief explanation about each type of dreadlock available.

Solids::  This means there is only one colour throughout the entire dreadlock,  it's a basic but bold choice if you want a solid block of colour.

Transitionals::  This is where one colour starts at the top of the dread then develops into another colour the further down the dread you go.  You can have several colours in a transitional dread.

Blends::  This is where several colours are mixed together to give a more natural, multitonal look to the dreadlocks.  Again you can have multiple colours in a blended dread.

Thirdly::  DE or SE - Do you want double ended or single ended dreads?

With dreadlocks you have the option to have a double ended set, a single ended set or a mixture of both.  Here's a short explanation between the two.

Double ended dread - {or "DE" for short} is one long dread that folds in half - giving you 2 dreads instead of just one.  You fix your hair to one side of the dreadlock & allow the other half to fold on top.  This option is best for hiding more of the securing elastics.

Single ended dread - {or "SE" for short} is a dreadlock with a hoop at the top.  You pull your own hair through the hoop section & then you fix your hair with elastics as normal.  This option is best if you want a more natural looking start to the dreadlocks.

Lastly:: Length - How long do you want your drealocks to be?

Vanity Is Bliss Dreads can offer 3 sizes - short, medium & long.

The length of the dreads effect the overall weight of the set, the longer they are - the heavier the set will become.

Short is between 10 - 14 inches {25.4cm - 35.5cm}

Medium is between 15 - 18 inches {38.1cm - 45.7cm}

Long is between 19 - 24 inches {48.2cm - 60.9cm}

It's All About You

At the end of the day it's all about personal prefferences, there is no right or wrong options when it comes to custom sets.

The choices are endless, so it's best to decide what's best for yourself & have fun experimenting with colours & styles.
